    Jane's Walk: Public Art

    May 2, 2026 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

Saturday, May 2, 2026 starting from the Yarmouth History Center at 9:00 am, free and open to all

Join co-leaders from Yarmouth Arts Alliance and Yarmouth History Center to explore Yarmouth’s public art and learn some fascinating snippets of local history along the way. Gail Clark and Linda Horstmann of Yarmouth Arts Alliance will share insights into the beautiful sculptures, installations, and paintings that are available for free public viewing in Yarmouth’s village center. Yarmouth History Center’s Katie Worthing will add details about each site’s historical and architectural significance. The tour will begin at the Yarmouth History Center and continue to Main Street, stopping at several points of interest along the way. We will end the tour inside Merrill Memorial Library around 10:30 am.

This walk is part of Jane’s Walk Maine, a statewide festival of free, volunteer-led walking conversations inspired by community activist Jane Jacobs. Jane’s Walks combine the simple act of exploring a place with personal observations, local history, and civic engagement. For more information and for the full list of the 50+ walks happening all over Maine on May 2, visit the Jane’s Walk Maine website. Thanks to our partner organizations Maine Preservation and Greater Portland Landmarks for putting these walks into action!

The Dirigo Men of Henri-Chapelle Cemetery: Stories of Maine’s WWII Service Members

Aimee Gagnon Fogg, Author and Founder of They Speak

Lt. Roger T.Lane of Yarmouth is one of Maine's 54 service members who are interred or commemorated at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium. Initially classified as MIA during the war, Lane's remains were located and identified in the 2000s. He now rests at the Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth. This talk will focus on the stories of the Mainers interred or commemorated at Henri-Chapelle. Aimee Gagnon Fogg is the founder of They Speak: Voices of Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, which is dedicated to collecting the personal stories and photos of the nearly 8,400 men of HCAC. She is the author of several publications and is also the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Women in American History award.
