On view now! Join us for a welcome burst of color on our walls with our exhibit of quilts by members of Maine Modern Quilters. The show will be on view from March 5 through May 2, 2026, with a free opening reception on Friday, March 27, from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Maine Modern Quilters (MMQ) is a statewide organization of quilters who meet monthly to learn about and share their enthusiasm for modern quilting. The group was founded in 2012 and encompasses a large group of member quilters across the state of Maine. According to the Modern Quilt Guild, the modern quilt movement centers innovation, with an emphasis on design and originality over replication and perfection of technique. The definition of a modern quilt is malleable, but often includes qualities like the bold use of color, areas of high contrast, improvisational piecing, minimalism and/or maximalism, and expansive negative space. Individual quilters may take some or all of these qualities in visually rich and varied directions. Come see the results on our walls in March and April, and visit MMQ’s website to learn more!
The Stonewall Gallery is located inside the Yarmouth History Center at 118 East Elm Street in Yarmouth, Maine. Our hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00-4:00.
