October 18, 2017

Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 pm ~ Join the Yarmouth Historical Society at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 14 as we welcome Jan Eakins to our ongoing Lecture Series. In a talk entitled “Raw Beef and Rusty Pork: Yarmouth, Freeport and the California Gold Rush,” Eakins will share stories of local families’ experiences during the gold rush of the 1840s and ‘50s.

Jan Eakins has lectured on Mainers and the gold rush at Maine Maritime Museum, Maine Historical Society and across the state. She currently is hard at work writing her book A Chance World, Lost Stories of Maine and the California Gold Rush and teaches courses in Maine history and in mass media at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Portland. In addition to being an enthusiastic participant in English country dance at Yarmouth Historical Society, Eakins is a trustee of Maine Historical Society and a docent at Fifth Maine Regiment Museum on Peaks Island. She holds degrees in historic preservation and cultural history, mass communications, and journalism.

The lecture is free for members of Yarmouth Historical Society and $5 for all others. The lecture series is sponsored by the Leon and Lisa Gorman Fund.
