On Saturday, August 22 at 6:00 pm, we kick off a new concert series: Folk on the Hill, showcasing local folk musicians performing inside the Old Meetinghouse at 25 Hillside Street in Yarmouth. Our August concert features Maine musicians Mike Maurice and Cole Phillips.
Mike Maurice is an indie folk singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist from Biddeford, Maine. Influenced by a range of artists like Gregory Alan Isakov, John Mayer, and The Fleet Foxes, his latest album “Apartment Secrets” touches on love, loss and the inner dialogue that many can relate to from the isolation of the pandemic. Made up of accomplished players who have graced the stages of State Theater, PHOME, Cross Insurance Arena, Port City Music Hall among others, Mike Maurice and his band cultivate community with every show they play.
Drawing comparisons to modern industry staples such as Donovan Woods, Caroline Spence, Ruston Kelly, Joy Williams, and others, Cole Phillips’s sound is rooted in folk and Americana while stepping into a contemporary sound all its own. With topical lyrics, full-band folk instrumentation, and modern melody, Phillips’s music is for everyone who has felt love and loss.
